When you step into a museum, you usually immerse yourself in something or someone else. At least, that’s how it often works. But this app takes a slightly different approach. It’s designed especially for young people who are in the middle of discovering who they are and how they relate to the world around them.
The app invites students to reflect on themselves by looking at the rich culture and customs of the Jewish community. These traditions become a mirror that helps young people explore their own ideas and beliefs. By engaging with another way of life, they get a starting point – something to push off from or connect with.
The app explores five important themes that play a big role in young people’s lives: love, family, friendship, the classroom and identity. These themes are the backbone of the experience, helping students better understand who they are, what they value and how they relate to others – including their classmates.
The app first guides young people to a specific object or space in the museum. Once they’ve found it, they can use the app to explore background information and get to know the object or space in context.
When the context is clear, the app shifts the focus to the students themselves. It does this by introducing a thought-provoking and relatable situation from their own world. This scenario leads into a key question they are asked to answer — either on their own or together with classmates.
